FOODFORTHOUGHT – CEO TALK

It was truly heart-warming last evening to engage with a wonder array of people at our first ‘#Foodforthought’ evening on ‘Social Innovation – World’s largest Kitchen’ . Shridhar Venkat, CEO AkshayaPatra India shared very interesting aspects of the charity’s work and its award winning and technology driven kitchens which produce close to 400 million meals each year!

This was only the beginning of many more #Foodforthought events. We are committed to bring a variety of inspirational speakers, story tellers and enthusiastic leaders to what we now realise is an eager, participative and delightful audience. Our purpose is to nurture and create a wonderfully collaborative eco-system for Akshaya Patra and our supporters. Stay tuned!

Event Details

Based in India, most of our 27 kitchens are ISO certified. We follow strict Food Safety Management Systems to ensure we provide only the highest quality, most nutritious and delicious school meals to enable the children to grow up healthily and thrive. Our largest kitchen – and the world’s largest – in Hubli can produce 185,000 meals a day! Kitchens are equipped with rice cauldrons and dal cauldrons. Each rice cauldron has a capacity of at least 500 litres, and each dal cauldron has the capacity to cook 1200 litres to 3000 litres of dal. Most North Indian kitchens are equipped with roti making machines, which have the capacity to roll out up to 200,000 rotis from 6000 kgs of wheat flour.

Students from leading institutions all over the world, including Harvard Business School, Mit Sloan School of Management, and London Business School have been drawn to study our ground-breaking processes and replicable model. We will never stop striving to ensure that we remain at the cutting edge of technology to allow us to reach millions more children in our mission to eradicate classroom hunger in India.

The talk was followed by a Q&A discussion to give you the opportunity to access Shridhar’s wealth of knowledge and a networking session. Refreshments were provided throughout by Cutting Chai.
