The world's largest mid-day meals provider, The Akshaya Patra Foundation (TAPF), and The Akshaya Patra Foundation UK, a charity serving mid-day meals to children in the UK, have announced Daniel Adams, Executive Director at Mary's Meals UK as the new CEO for TAPF UK. Daniel joins the UK charity in June, ahead of its biggest holiday hunger project, aiming to feed over 100,000 hot meals to children during the summer holidays of 2023, across London.
Daniel Adams brings over a decade's experience in transforming young lives through Mary’s Meals, serving over 2 million meals a day to children in 18 countries. Daniel takes over from Bhawani Singh Shekhawat who led the UK organisation as CEO for the last 7 years, overseeing the launch of the charity's first kitchen in the UK in 2020. The UK kitchen has already served over 700,000 meals to children at schools, council run holiday clubs and community centres, among other locations.
Daniel Adams said, "I'm delighted – and feel deeply honoured – to have been appointed CEO of The Akshaya Patra Foundation UK. Having greatly admired the organisation’s ethos and approach from afar, I am now filled with joy and excitement at the prospect of leading and learning from the incredibly talented TAPF UK team, as well as collaborating closely with our inspirational colleagues in India.
“I believe passionately in, and have seen first-hand over many years, the transformative power of school meals for vulnerable children living in poverty. Akshaya Patra’s innovative and state-of-the-art food delivery model, which ensures so many hungry children receive fresh, nutritious and life-changing meals every school day, is an indelible sign of hope in the world. My focus will be on leading the dedicated TAPF UK team towards strong growth of our scale and impact, both in the UK and in support of our vital work in India."
Bhawani Singh Shekhawat said: "It has been an immense honour and privilege to lead The Akshaya Patra Foundation UK. I am even more delighted that I am passing the baton to Daniel Adams- who not only comes with a fantastic track record but also carries with him the purposive wisdom that will enable Akshaya Patra UK to achieve even higher levels of service. With gratitude, I will remain connected and a part of The Akshaya Patra Foundation globally as I take on a broader, global role."
Chair of Akshaya Patra UK, Wayne McArdle said: "We are privileged to have Daniel joining us at this important time, when demand for our services in the UK continues to grow. We have always admired the work of Mary’s Meals, and look forward to Daniel building on the exemplary work of Bhawani Shekhawat and the entire UK Team. We are also delighted that Bhawani will remain connected to the UK charity, as well as assuming a broader, global role for Akshaya Patra Foundation."
Vice Chair of The Akshaya Patra Foundation, Chanchalapati Dasa said, "We are delighted to welcome Daniel Adams as the new CEO at TAPF UK. I am certain Daniel's experience in the space of food poverty among children and young people, coupled with his urge to make a difference, will help Akshaya Patra serve many thousands more."
